Evangelization: A Pastoral Necessity

In this address on Jesus Day to a gathering at Quilgley South Preparatory Seminary in Chicago, IL, Archbishop Murphy began by stating, “I have begun to recognize more and more that evangelization is at the heart of who we are and what we do; it is not an option for disciples of Jesus.” He identified the parish community as the critical place for transformation – from a focus on membership to one based on ministry. The archbishop articulated his view with the following words, “Evangelization is the challenge to put people in touch in a significant way with the Good News of the Gospel and with the person of Jesus Christ.”
