Stewardship: A call to discipleship

Archbishop Murphy dedicates his weekly “In Joy and Hope” column for the Catholic Northwest Progress to providing an overview of the concept of stewardship. There is a simple yet powerful question at the heart of stewardship, “What do I own and what owns me?” “It (stewardship) is more than the responsible use of our gifts and talents or our sharing of our time, talent and treasure with the church,” said Archbishop Murphy. “In reality, stewardship is a response to the basic vocation of every baptized Christian: to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.” In his view, discipleship calls for a change of heart – a conversion experience.
