In his weekly Catholic Northwest Progress “In Joy and Hope” column, Archbishop Murphy describes confirmation as the completion of the initiation which began at baptism and which has been nourished in the Eucharist. “For so many of them (confirmandi), it is more than a ritual or a celebration in which they are expected to take part,” said Archbishop Murphy. “Rather, it is the personal decision to seek an adult appreciation and development of their faith.” The archbishop’s outreach to young people was one of the most vibrant parts of his ministry – especially at celebrations such as confirmation.
