Lord Make Us Channels of Your Peace

Bishop Murphy delivered this address to the North American Conference for Separated and Divorced Catholics at the University of Notre Dame in July of 1981. He is a strong advocate for the development of a meaningful ministry to women and men who have suffered the trauma of divorce. In his view, “When a marriage relationship is broken or weakened … what should be the response of the Christian community, the response of the Church? The response should be the ministry of Jesus – a ministry of care, compassion, healing and concern while at the same time maintaining the values of Jesus.”
