Rite of Election – First Sunday of Lent

In his homily delivered at the Rite of Election Mass, Archbishop Murphy describes the ceremony as the commitment to become disciples of Jesus. Faith and the cross as the two core realities of what is means to be a disciple. He characterizes Jesus as one who had to live by faith with confidence and trust in his Father’s love. “The cross and faith – the powerful paradox we are asked to live where we learn that faith in the shadow of the cross is the only sure way to lasting joy,” said the archbishop.
