Mass for Peace

Archbishop Murphy celebrated a Mass for peace at St. James Cathedral in Seattle, WA in response to Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait. The archbishop appealed for all present to band together and pray for peace. He used Christ’s words to the disciples in the boat in that evening’s Gospel to tell the congregation to not be afraid. “We invite you this afternoon and this evening to join with family, friends, and neighbors to pray for peace,” said Archbishop Murphy. “But, if we hear God’s word, we must not only pray for peace, but we must not be afraid to work for peace.”
